We Have Been Providing Treatment for Fibromyalgia (FM) in San Francisco Since 1992.
Are you looking for a Fibromyalgia specialist? A Fibromyalgia expert? Well...fibromyalgia is probably the most misdiagnosed and misunderstood musculoskeletal pain syndrome that presents to a doctors office. It's really only the last several years that FM has received the research and attention it deserves. Even so, some doctors and medical experts dismiss the existence of FM altogether.
So what is Fibromyalgia?
FM is a complex condition that includes fatigue and chronic muscle, tendon, and ligament pain that is wide-spread (NOT contained to one small region). Generalized pain and fatigue are the hallmarks of FM, which can range from mild to severe disability. However, there are many misconceptions about FM.
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic condition where the diagnosis is made by elimination since there are no specific lab tests for diagnosing FM.
A fibromyalgia patient may have neck pain, upper back pain, low back pain, hip pain and leg pain and headaches. In fact, sometimes almost every joint in the body hurts and the patient does not respond to conventional treatments such as pain medications, physical therapy, exercise or even chiropractic. This is where unique treatments like deep tissue laser therapy can help.
It is a know fact that trauma such as whiplash injury can trigger the onset of FM. Evidence also suggests that there is an autoimmune component to fibromyalgia and just treating the musculoskeletal system is not enough. The best approach is to address the lifestyle components such as diet, exercise, sleep, mental, hormonal, and stress, in addition to musculoskeletal treatments such as chiropractic, acupuncture, and physical therapy.
At our chiropractic clinic in San Francisco we work with other health care providers and act as the quarterback of a fibromyalgia treatment team to help manage simple and complicated FM cases. We are fibromyalgia specialists and offer low force treatments such as nonsurgical spinal decompression, activator method, and light touch massage.
We post regular updates on our blog (see below) about the latest FM research on nutrition, exercise, alternative treatments, chiropractic and FM, and lifestyle modifications.
