Spinal Decompression in Downtown San Francisco

spinal decompression san francisco

Spinal Decompression Therapy with the DRX9000 in SF.

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in the San Francisco Financial District for over 10 years now.

We were the first to introduce the DRX9000 lumbar decompression machine to San Francisco. A while later we purchased a DRX9000c cervical decompression machine so that we could treat both lumbar and cervical disc bulges and herniations.

During this time we have helped thousands of back and neck pain patients return to more normal active lifestyles. Hundreds have avoided back or neck surgery.

Low back pain and sciatica is the most common presentation of a lumbar disc herniation. Often times there just are not many treatment options. Most of the patients that seek us out for spinal decompression therapy have tried many forms of treatment with little to no success.

A typical herniated disc patient will have tried pain pills, muscle relaxers, cortisone, physical therapy, and maybe even acupuncture and chiropractic. Sometimes nothing seems to help. This is when many consider back or neck surgery.

Fortunately, there is a wealth of information online about the DRX9000 and the DRX9000c and those that do their homework are able to discover clinics such as our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as bulging and herniated cervical and lumbar spinal discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, Facet Syndrome and even failed back surgery.

Disc decompression therapy elongates the spine, enlarges the disc space, strengthens the spinal muscles and ligaments, re-positions and re-hydrates the injured spinal disc and restores lost motion and function.

Spinal decompression machines are like respirators for the spinal disc. They help the disc to do what they would do if they could…until they can.

Does spinal decompression heal every single herniated disc patient?

NO…just most of them.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for spinal decompression?

You need to find a local doctor that has a spinal decompression machine and have a decompression evaluation and assessment. If you have x-rays or MRI bring them along with you to the apt.

If you want to find out if you are a candidate for lumbar or cervical spinal decompression at our SF Financial District clinic then you need to contact us.

Call our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Clinic at 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Sciatica Treatment in San Francisco

spinal decompression SF

Spinal Decompression Therapy SF

We have been providing treatment for Sciatica in San Francisco for over 22 years now.

Recently, Executive Express Chiropractic (EEC) as acquired by Chiro-Medical Group, Inc. Chiro-Medical Group (CMG) is a team of medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, athletic trainers and staff that are highly trained in the area of sports medicine and chronic pain syndromes.

What this means to you is we now have the ability to combine nonsurgical spinal decompression at Executive Express Chiropractic with physical medicine at CMG, which is only a short walk away. Patients are reporting outstanding results so far.

Sciatica, which mean “pain in the leg” is caused primarily by pinched nerves in the low back due to herniated and bulging discs. These conditions tend to be progressive in nature and can become severe and debilitating.

Fortunately, sciatica responds favorably to conservative chiropractic care and exercises most of the time. It just depends on the nature and severity of your condition. In the event chiropractic fails to deliver favorable outcomes with chiropractic we will consider spinal decompression with the DRX9000 as a next step.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as herniated discs, bulging discs, disc degeneration, and facet syndromes, naturally.

The treatment program is around 6-10 weeks depending on the severity of the problem and necessary rehab involved. If you have health insurance they will most likely cover some of the ancillary charges such as exercises, x-rays, medical consultations, blood work, physical therapy and home care supplies.

If you have been diagnosed with a herniated or bulging lumbar disc and are experiencing low back pain or sciatica then we would be glad to meet with you to discuss treatment options.

To find out if you are a candidate for low back pain and sciatica treatment in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225 and schedule a consultation with one of our back pain doctors.

Chances are…you will be glad you did :-)

Whiplash Treatment With Chiropractic

whiplash treatment downtown SF

Whiplash Treatment in San Francisco

We have been providing treatment for whiplash in San Francisco for over 22 years.

With the rainy season upon us the roads will be much more slick leading to more auto accidents and whiplash injuries.  Some more severe than others.

The important thing to remember if you or someone you know is involved in a motor vehicle accident is that even a small amount of property damage can cause major misalignment’s in the neck and back.

Untreated whiplash injuries can lead to arthritis, disc and spine degeneration and symptoms such as headaches, neck pain, insomnia, and chronic back pain.

According to research, it’s best to see a chiropractor for whiplash injuries…and it’s best to be seen right away. If you wait, then scar tissue and inflammation may persist which can become irreversible.

A chiropractor trained in whiplash injuries can prescribe a course of treatment that will include chiropractic adjustments, massage, ice, exercises, and home care to reduce the likelihood of permanent damage. Whiplash is nothing to mess around with and should be addressed immediately to ensure a favorable treatment outcome.

To find out if you are a candidate for whiplash treatment in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Whiplash: What’s Best Rest or Treatment?

whiplash treatment downtown SF

Whiplash Treatment in San Francisco

We have been providing treatment for whiplash in downtown San Francisco for over 20 years.

Whiplash, or WAD (whiplash associated disorders) results from the rapid movement of the neck and head resulting in injury. This is the net result of the “classic” motor vehicle collision, though other injury models (like slips and falls) can result in similar injuries. Last month, we listed basic facts, of which one was better results (less long-term pain and disability) occurred from initial active treatment of the neck with mobilization/manipulation, exercise, and encouraging movement vs. placing a collar on the patient and “resting” the injured neck. Though there are a few studies that suggest there is no difference in results, the majority state that it is BEST to actively treat the patient and encourage movement (of course, assuming no unstable fractures have occurred) rather than to place the patient into a collar and limit activities. The first question that we’ll address this month is, why is this important?

The simple answer is that you, as an advocate for an injured friend, family member or as a patient yourself, may NOT be offered “the best” treatment approach by the ER or primary care physician. In fact, one study cited a survey regarding the management of whiplash injuries in an ER and reported that between 23-47% of physicians prescribed a soft cervical collar for acute whiplash rather than promoting immediate active treatment. By knowing this information, the knowledgeable patient can refuse the collar method of care and seek care that emphasizes the use of early mobilization and manipulation, like chiropractic! Though referrals to chiropractors are increasing as more research becomes available, chiropractic care is still significantly ignored or not considered by many practicing ER and primary care physicians. As always, you need to be your own “best advocate,” and the only way to do that is to be informed, hence the intention of this Health Update! Some studies even report that the use of a collar may have deleterious or “bad” side effects and can actually make you WORSE (this was reported by the Quebec Task Force)! The majority of studies on the subject of whiplash report that encouraging “normal activity,” as opposed to immobilization, IS the best approach. We will certainly help steer you in the right direction!

Next, let’s talk about WHY does this method works better? The research supports that soft tissues injuries heal better and with less scar tissue formation when patients receive active treatment/early activity types of care (like manipulation / chiropractic). In general, any treatment approach that reduces patient suffering sooner, encourages one to return to “normal activities” faster, and promotes independence and self-care methods earlier is the best approach!

We realize you have a choice in whom you consider for your health care provision and we sincerely appreciate your trust in choosing our service for those needs.  If you, a friend, or family member requires care for Whiplash, we would be honored to render our services.

To schedule an appointment for whiplash treatment in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225.

Sciatica Treatment with Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression in san franciscoWe have been providing relief for sciatica symptoms in downtown San Francisco since 1992.

Sciatica is a symptom not a cause. Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve or nerve roots, which originate in the lumbar spine and travel down the leg become irritated and inflamed. When this happens it typically causes pain that travels down one or both legs, usually one. There can be associated numbness, tingling or weakness. Sometimes there is back pain and sometimes there isn’t.

The most common cause of sciatica is a herniated or bulging disc in the low back. Although, the pain associated can be severe and debilitating, it’s also the type of problem that can be brought under control within a few weeks. Chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, and exercise can help with sciatica symptoms. But in reality, they are just treating the symptoms and not the cause.

About 9 years ago we began to incorporate nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000 into our herniated and bulging disc treatment protocols. We were the first to offer these services in San Francisco. Since then we have performed more than 20,000 decompression sessions to thousands of disc patients, and the results have been outstanding.

Spinal Decompression machines are designed and built to treat lumbar disc herniations, bulges, facet syndrome, degenerative disc disease, and spinal stenosis…all sciatica causes, naturally.

Disc decompression therapy with the DRX elongates the spine, enlarges the disc space, re-hydrates the injured spinal disc and re-positions the herniated disc fragments away from the nerve roots and spinal cord and back to the center of the disc. Does it do this every time? NO…just most of the time. No treatment is 100% effective. However, spinal decompression IS 100% natural. No drugs, No surgery. Either it works or it doesn’t (rare). In the rare event the DRX fails to deliver results, you are still whole and can pursue other treatment options. The DRX is very very safe…and effective.

To find out if you are a candidate for sciatica treatment in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

Plantar Fasciitis: A Patient Success Story

Heel Pain Treatment San FranciscoThis is the story of our “Patient of the Week”. Genny
reported with constant right heel pain
that has been persistent since November 2012.

Being an avid runner and
hiker, this pain began interfering with the activities to the point
where she had to stop completely.  After having an MRI done, which ruled
out a tear in her plantar fascia, she was diagnosed with Plantar
Fasciitis.

She had tried physical therapy, ultra sound, rolling on a
tennis ball, and rolling on a frozen water bottle and nothing has been
able to give her relief from her pain. She began using custom orthotics,
which used to help decrease the pain when she would run, but no longer
provide the support she needs.

After having her orthotics rebuilt, and
still having pain in her heel, she googled treatment for Plantar
Faciitis
and found us!  After doing a few tests, what we found out is
that Genny actually is suffering from something
called Fat Pad Syndrome.  FPS has a very similar case presentation to
Plantar Fasciitis, but the pain is localized to strictly the heel, and
the pain is not felt when squeezing the fat pad and then pushing on the
painful area.

We have been treating Genny with
our Class IV Deep Tissue Laser, as well as taping her fat pad for
additional support.  She reports feeling improvement in her condition,
and was even able to go on two hikes PAIN-FREE when on a trip to Sedona!
We are thrilled with Genny‘s improvement and can’t wait to see her back at 100%!

Many patients suffer for years with heel pain and foot pain secondary to Plantar Fasciitis. Just like Genny they try many treatments. Class IV Laser Therapy can often help when all else fails. To find out if you are a candidate for Deep Tissue Laser Therapy in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation and laser demonstration.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Herbs

Carpal tunnel symptoms natural care san francisco
We have been providing natural carpal tunnel treatment in San Francisco for over 20 years now.

Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition caused by the compression of the median
nerve as it travels through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. The “source” of
median nerve compression can be soft tissue swelling, such as tendonitis,
bursitis, synovitis, capsulitis, etc. Last month, we discussed nutritional
supplementation for CTS in general. This month, the focus is on specific herbs
that can help this potentially disabling condition.

1.       Chamomile functions as a natural “tranquilizer.” It’s used for
muscle pain (as a relaxant), but can also help other problems such as menstrual
disorders, headaches, and tension. Chamomile facilitates relaxation of tight
muscles and has an anti-inflammatory property that soothes cramps.

2.       Kava Root is an herbal plant that is well known for its muscle
relaxing benefits. It is particularly helpful with extreme muscle pain.

3.       Valerian is a very effective relaxant that dates back to the
medieval times for curing ailments associated with muscle spasms such as muscle
cramps and neck problems.

4.       Catnip is also a natural muscle relaxant, and is a member of
the mint family. It is used as a sedative and muscle relaxer. Headaches due to
tension have been treated using a poultice containing catnip. Catnip has also
been found to reduce swelling in joints and reduce soft tissue injuries such as
tendonitis, bursitis, and capsulitis.

5.     Cayenne
Pepper
is a popular herb used in
cooking and can be found in many recipes. Cayenne pepper has been found to
significantly relieve the pain of muscle cramping.

6.       Horseradish has been reported to relieve extreme muscular stress
involved in cramps and muscle pain. One approach is mixing a few drops of
horseradish oil in bath water to reduce soreness associated with muscle aches.

7.       Lavender flower oil is well known as a very effective muscle
relaxant that provides relief caused by muscular tension. Using a circular
motion while massaging the oil over the achy muscle can be particularly
soothing. In addition to the mind/body relaxation benefits, an increase in
circulation allows the tense muscles to relax and heal.

8.       Licorice has the ability to reduce inflammation associated
with muscle pain.

9.       Devil’s Claw is a very popular anti-inflammatory herb that dates
back to the 18th century for the treatment of arthritis and many other painful
conditions. It’s also used as an effective muscle relaxer.

10.   Peppermint oil has been used to treat conditions associated with
muscles aches. Pouring some drops of peppermint oil in a hot bucket of water to
soak a foot, ankle or lower leg (possibly combined with Epson salt) can be very
relieving.

11.   Other
natural muscle relaxants include

Cramp bark, Passiflora, Bergamot, Cardamom, Basil, Ginger root, and others.

            It is appropriate to COMBINE
these natural herbal approaches with other treatments that are known to work
well in the treatment of CTS. Chiropractic can provide: 1. Manipulation and
mobilization of the neck, shoulder, elbow forearm, wrist, hand, and fingers; 2.
Cock-up splints to be worn at night and at times during the day such as
driving; 3. Physical therapy modalities such as electric stim, ultrasound,
light or laser therapy, magnetic field; 4. Work station and other ergonomic
modification recommendations; 5. Exercise training, and more.

We realize you have a choice in who
you consider for your health care provision and we sincerely appreciate your
trust in choosing our service for those needs.
If you, a friend or family member require care for CTS, we would be
honored to render our services.

To schedule an appointment with one of our carpal tunnel syndrome doctors in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Mention this blog for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression Success Story

Spinal Decompression Therapy in SFKelsey presented to our spinal decompression clinic in 2011 complaining of constant
lower back pain which had been present for over 9 years.

Living a
healthy life filled with working out and playing sports, Kelsey was
heartbroken when her low back pain reached a level where she could no longer
enjoy these activities. Anyone that knows Kelsey, knows she’s a
fighter and she was determined not to let her pain ruin her life. After
spending countless hours at Kaiser to figure out what was wrong with
her, she was diagnosed with “back pain” and given pain relievers.
Dissatisfied with what she was told, she knew there was more to her
story, so she went to get an MRI. Her MRI results revealed degenerative
disc disease in her lumbar spine, and disc herniation at L5/S1. She
“google searched” for a treatment for her condition other than surgery
and found us!  She read our patient reviews about our DRX 9000 machine and how it helps
treat degenerative disc disease and disc herniations, so she figured
she’d give it a try.

Before Kelsey completed her first several session of
treatments, she reported being able to fly on a plane and start working
out at the gym again!  In less than 2 months, her constant and
debilitating low back pain was described as “mild low back pain”. Wow!

Kelsey now comes in periodically for her low back “tune up” and is able
to enjoy life again!  She enjoys going to the gym and playing softball
again.  We are over the moon with excitement that Kelsey no longer feels
like her pain is running her life.  Keep on rockin’ Kelsey!

What Does “Deep Tissue Laser Therapy” Do?

Deep Tissue Laser San FranciscoWe have been providing Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy in San Francisco for about 5 years now. Prior to this we used various versions of the less powerful hot and cold lasers. The laser we use now is the LiteCure Deep Tissue Laser.

So what’s the difference between the older cold lasers and a Class IV Deep Tissue Laser?

Well, the Class IV laser is much more powerful. It can get you where you want to go a lot quicker. The older lasers are like a single engine prop plane and the new Class IV Deep Tissue Lasers are like a Lear Jet. If you want to get from San Francisco to New York City in the shortest amount of time you take the Lear Jet.

What exactly does deep tissue laser therapy do anyway?

OK…lets go back in time to your Biology class in High School. Do you remember the word PHOTOSYNTHESIS? This is the word that describes the way living plants and organisms
respond to light. Photo means “light”. Well…living cells and tissues
respond to light the same way. Laser is to damaged tissue cells like
sunlight is to a plant in a dark room needing repair.

Basically…”Light is Life”.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is able to deliver “light energy” deep into the tissues of the body. And get this…The laser light goes where it is needed most. Damaged cells are magnets for laser light energy.

The laser light sets into motion a cascade of chemical reactions that speed up the healing process resulting in reduction of inflammation, swelling, loss of funtion and pain.

Some of the conditions that we have had great success with at our clinic are Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, Shoulder and Elbow Pain, TMJ, Neck and Back Pain, and Whiplash Injury.

We typically incorporate chiropractic adjustments and other soft tissue therapies such as ART and Graston Technique into the mix. We also use Deep Tissue Laser as a stand alone treatment as well.

How many Deep Tissue Laser Therapy sessions does it take to heal an injury?

Depending on the nature and severity of the injury and the body part/s involved it can take anywhere from 5-20 sessions. This is determined at the time of the initial exam and intake.

How much does Deep Tissue Laser Therapy Costs?

It depends if it is a stand alone treatment and to what area of the body (larger areas require a longer treatment time) and how many treatment sites there are. In general, laser therapy is not expensive. We will make recommendations based on individual needs.

Is Deep Tissue Therapeutic Laser Therapy Painful?

No, not at all. What you feel is a gentle warmth…it is very safe and gentle.

How Do I Find Out If I am a Candidate for Deep Tissue Laser Therapy?

Our clinic provides Deep Tissue Laser Therapy in San Francisco at the Embarcadero Center in the Financial District. We would be glad to offer you a complimentary consultation to discuss your case in person and discuss your treatment options. Simply call 415-392-2225. We Validate Parking.
