Spinal Decompression in Downtown San Francisco

Spinal Decompression Therapy with the DRX9000 in SF.

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in the San Francisco Financial District for over 10 years now.

We were the first to introduce the DRX9000 lumbar decompression machine to San Francisco. A while later we purchased a DRX9000c cervical decompression machine so that we could treat both lumbar and cervical disc bulges and herniations.

During this time we have helped thousands of back and neck pain patients return to more normal active lifestyles. Hundreds have avoided back or neck surgery.

Low back pain and sciatica is the most common presentation of a lumbar disc herniation. Often times there just are not many treatment options. Most of the patients that seek us out for spinal decompression therapy have tried many forms of treatment with little to no success.

A typical herniated disc patient will have tried pain pills, muscle relaxers, cortisone, physical therapy, and maybe even acupuncture and chiropractic. Sometimes nothing seems to help. This is when many consider back or neck surgery.

Fortunately, there is a wealth of information online about the DRX9000 and the DRX9000c and those that do their homework are able to discover clinics such as our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as bulging and herniated cervical and lumbar spinal discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, Facet Syndrome and even failed back surgery.

Disc decompression therapy elongates the spine, enlarges the disc space, strengthens the spinal muscles and ligaments, re-positions and re-hydrates the injured spinal disc and restores lost motion and function.

Spinal decompression machines are like respirators for the spinal disc. They help the disc to do what they would do if they could…until they can.

Does spinal decompression heal every single herniated disc patient?

NO…just most of them.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for spinal decompression?

You need to find a local doctor that has a spinal decompression machine and have a decompression evaluation and assessment. If you have x-rays or MRI bring them along with you to the apt.

If you want to find out if you are a candidate for lumbar or cervical spinal decompression at our SF Financial District clinic then you need to contact us.

Call our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Clinic at 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Non-Surgical Disc Herniation Treatment

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

DRX9000 in San Francisco We have been helping herniated disc patients in the SF Financial District for almost 20 years now with our unique brand of chiropractic and spinal rehabilitation.

About 6 years ago we added non-surgical spinal decompression to the mix with the DRX9000. The DRX9000 lumbar decompression system is a machine that uses computerized technology to treat lumbar disc herniations, bulging discs, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome, and degenerative disc disease.

Spinal disc decompression is often times able to repair herniated discs without surgical intervention.

Patients that have been suffering for years with chronic back pain, sciatica, leg weakness, and muscle spasms, more often than not are able to return to a more normal "active" lifestyle.

Non-surgical treatment of herniated discs was once thought impossible. I know that's what I thought when I first heard about spinal decompression therapy…without the knife.

But that was then, and this is now. Non-surgical spinal disc decompression is now considered the "Gold Standard" for drug-less, non-surgical intervention for low back pain and sciatica secondary to a pinched nerve in the low back.

The majority of pinched nerves are caused by either a herniated lumbar disc or a bulging lumbar disc…both of which respond favorably to spinal decompression treatment with the DRX9000 or other decompression systems…there are many good ones.

So…have you been told by your medical doctor that you need back surgery? Have you had numerous cortisone injections? Have you tried physical therapy or chiropractic care with limited success? If so, you may be a candidate for spinal decompression therapy with the DRX9000 or DRX9000c, which treats cervical disc herniations.

Anyway, YES…there is such a thing as non-surgical disc herniation therapy…and it's available at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center in downtown San Francisco.

To find out if you are a candidate for lumbar decompression therapy or cervical decompression therapy with the DRX9000 or DRX9000c, call 415-392-2225 and ask for a Complimentary Consultation.

Do you really need back surgery for a herniated disc?

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

Back Surgery Have you been told you need back surgery? Well, you might. But you might not also…and which would you prefer?  Sure, there are micro-surgical techniques…and the doctors that do them have done hundreds of them…but many patients would rather live with the pain than have back surgery.

Why? Because they just don't like the idea of someone cutting into their body and removing something if they can avoid it. Common sense tells them that it's risky. And friends and research tells them the results are mixed. At least that's what I hear all day long…and I'm right in the thick of it.

I receive maybe 50 email inquiries per month from around the world from cervical and lumbar disc herniation patients that are scared to death to go under the knife, but have been told it's the only option. Is it?

It might be if your spine is too far gone and you have severe degenerative spinal stenosis or advanced degeneration and stenosis from an unstable spondylolisthesis. But cases like this are the exception and not the rule.

For the most part, the herniated disc patients we consult with and treat at our Spinal Decompression Clinic in San Francisco have disc herniations that can be helped non-surgically with spinal decompression.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to help reposition and heal injured spinal discs.

Disc decompression can also help bulging discs in the neck or low back before they herniate.

Conditions such as degenerative disc disease can also benefit from nonsurgical spinal decompression because the degenerative process can be slowed by restoring fluid and nutrient exchange between the injured disc and the bloodstream.

So, should you have back surgery or neck surgery for your herniated disc?

I sure wouldn't jump right into it. Why not try spinal decompression first?  Decompression therapy will leave you whole. The worst thing that happens is it doesn't work. You can still try other treatments and you can still have back surgery if you wish.

But here's the deal…If you have a fusion surgery in your spine…you will be disqualified from spinal decompression. You will never be able to try it.

I had a retired surgeon in my office crying and begging me to perform spinal decompression on him. He had had a failed lumbar fusion surgery.  He said he would have the hardware removed. He offered me $100,000. He could only sleep upright. He said the surgery had ruined his life.

Now this is a dramatic example…and he may have been so bad he needed the fusion…some are.

But some aren't, and they have the back surgery anyway because they think it's thier only option. Only to find out later about nonsurgical spinal decompression…When it's too late!

In my opinion, many people that are told they need surgery have other options. And spinal decompression has quickly become the "go-to" nonsurgical other option. It's worth a shot!

To find out if you are a candidate for spinal disc decompression at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression clinic…call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

How does spinal decompression work?

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

Drx9000 san francisco Spinal disc decompression with machines such as the DRX9000 is no longer a novelty.

Six years ago we became the first clinic in San Francisco to offer DRX9000 nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy. Now there are decompression therapy machines all over the Bay Area.

Why is this? Well…it's not because they don't work, I'll tell you that!

In fact, the success rates are fantastic as long as the spinal decompression doctor is skilled at setting herniated disc patients up (on the spinal decompression machine) properly and managing chronic back pain and neck pain patients. This comes with experience….it's an art.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as herniated discs, bulging discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and facet syndrome.

Disc decompression therapy actually isolates on a specific spinal segment such as L5-S1 (which is the most common lumbar disc to herniate) and does the following:

  • Enlarges the disc space.
  • Elongates the spine.
  • Repositions the spinal disc.
  • Pulls the herniated or bulging disc fragments back to the center of the disc and off the spinal cord and nerves.
  • Re-hydrates the disc (pumps out waste products and brings in nutrients).
  • Strenghtens the spinal ligaments.
  • Reduces intradiscal pressure.

It sounds great…how come medical doctors don't refer herniated disc patients out for spinal decompression therapy?

Some do…In fact, some medical doctors have the DRX9000 or similar decompression systems in their clinics.

At our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center we get medical referrals all the time. We have also treated many medical doctors, dentists, nurses (hear one our patients tell her DRX9000 story), and health care providers with decompression therapy.

It sounds to good to be true?

Yes it does…but here's the deal:

Spinal decompression is NOT a Magic Bullet. Spinal decompression is a lot of work. It takes 20-24 one hour sessions on average and there is quite a bit of home care, exercises, and work by both the patient and provider.

And…it's possible you could go through the entire process and not get better. It's possible…but not likely. Success rates are excellent.

So where do I sign-up?

Not so fast…you first have to be qualified by a spinal decompression doctor…not everyone is a candidate for spinal disc decompression. Here's what you need to do:

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area you can call Executive Express Chiropractic at 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation (mention this blog post).

If you do not live in San Francisco you can visit our recommended chiropractors page (most are spinal decompression doctors)  or send me an email at ebendavis@yahoo.com and I will do my best to steer you in the right direction.

Can Spinal Decompression Repair A Herniated Disc?

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

DRX9000 San Francisco We have been helping herniated disc patients in downtown San Francisco for almost 20 years now with our unique brand of chiropractic, spinal rehabilitation, nutrition, and education. Our approach worked fine for 15 years, but we always wished we could do more.

We would end up referring many herniated disc patients out for medical care that would not respond to chiropractic care…or anything else for that matter. Some would have surgery (which has mixed results and risks) and some would just learn to live with the pain.

Then, after a few years of research we decided to purchase our first Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression machine (5 years ago). Spinal decompression systems are designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as herniated discs, bulging discs, facet syndrome, disc degeneration, and spinal stenosis, without surgery…and they do it well.

Spinal disc decompression is able to increase disc height, elongate the spine, stretch the spinal ligaments, rehydrate the disc, reposition the disc in between the spinal bones, and pull the injured disc away from the spinal nerves and the spinal cord. Pretty amazing HUH?

Does it really do this? Yes…but not every single time. Just most of the time.

Is there research that proves spinal decompression works? Yes…there are preliminary research studies that have been conducted at the Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins University, and Duke University (see Spinal Decompression Special Report).

So can a herniated disc be repaired? YES.

Can spinal disc decompression help fix my herniated disc?  Maybe…you have to be examined by a spinal decompression doctor and have your case accepted…not everyone qualifies medically.

How long does spinal decompression take to repair a herniated disc? It just depends. Usually 18-24 one hour sessions is all it takes. All cases are handled on an individual basis.

How do I find out if I am a candidate for Spinal Decompression?

If you live in the SF Bay Area you can call our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center at 415-392-2225. Mention this blog post for a complimentary consultation. You can also request an appointment online. Use code "Blog" in the referral source field.

Is Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression just expensive traction?

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

spinal decompression san francisco
We have been helping herniated disc patients in San Francisco for almost 20 years now with our unique brand of chiropractic. About 5 years ago we added nonsurgical spinal decompression into the mix which made our back pain and neck pain outcomes even better.

Nonsurgical spinal decompression or spinal disc decompression is done on a very expensive machine that is designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as bulging discs, herniated discs, spinal stenosis (soft tissue), facet syndrome, and spinal disc degeneration. The machine we use cost around $150,000 and it treats both cervical and lumbar disc herniations and disc compression syndromes.

There are many manufacturers of high-end spinal disc decompression machines and for the most part they all work well. However…there are also many cheap machines out there that masquerade as spinal decompression machines or are advertised as nonsurgical spinal decompression machines…and some are just regular old traction devices…there is a big difference.

So what is the difference between non surgical spinal decompression and traction?

Well lets start with the similarities first. Both spinal decompression machines and traction machines pull on either the lumbar spine or the cervical spine. And both require some sort of a harness device to connect you to the machine. But that's where the similarities end.

Nonsurgical spinal decompression machines are fully computerized and contain a bio-feedback mechanism that enables them to sense a patients muscle guarding response to the treatment. The spinal decompression machine is then able to adjust the force of pull in response to this information while at the same time maintaining a constant pull (very important).

The muscle guarding response is what makes conventional traction contraindicated for many herniated disc patients. You can cause severe injury if you pull too much on muscles that are trying to protect an injured area such as a herniated or bulging lumbar disc. The pull must be "just right".

So, is there a difference between spinal decompression and traction? Yes, and it's a big one.

Traction just pulls, which could make the problem worse. Nonsurgical spinal decompression adapts and adjust to the patients natural muscle guarding response and makes the treatment process much more safe and effective.

In fact, many of our San Francisco disc herniation patients have already tried traction…and some say  it made them worse.  Most say it was very uncomfortable.

So do your homework and think twice before you do conventional traction for your herniated disc.

And for the people that tell you that spinal decompression is just expensive traction…well I guess they just have an agenda (or are uneducated about it)…because I don't know why they would say that…because it's just not true.Check-out our YouTube channel and watch our many spinal decompression testimonials.

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center Accepting Reservations for 9/17/2007 Start Date

SF Financial District DRX9000 Spinal Decompression Center has 4 openings for disc herniation patients who are ready to get better.

The start date is Monday, September 17th. DRX 9000 Spinal Decompression sessions will be Monday- Thursday (4 days) for 5 weeks. Your cervical or lumbar spinal decompression therapy will be finished on Thursday, October 18th. So, if you have been considering the DRX9000 or the DRX9000c, now is the time. You can plan it out, and make it happen.

On a side note…I spoke with one of my (young) female DRX9000 (lumbar disc herniation) patients today as she is just about finished with her treatment. She could hardly get on and off the table when she started, and she limped badly. I was concerned that the DRX9000 treatment might not help…it just seemed so bad.  Now, she does not limp at all and was all smiles today. She said "I feel great". I also found out she drives from Half Moon Bay everyday. So, when I hear people say "it is too far" or "it costs too much" or " I just don’t have the time"…I think to myself–They are just not ready to get better. When you are ready you take action and get better, nothing gets in your way.

So, if you are ready to give spinal decompression with the DRX9000 a chance, now is the time. Hey, there’s never going to be a perfect time…for anything. Make it happen.

If you would like to reserve one of the 4 remaining DRX9000 spinal decompression 9/17 appointment  slots at our SF Financial District DRX Center, please call 415-392-2225 and ask for Dr. Davis. I will call you to discuss the details and make arrangements to meet with you to determine if you are medically qualified.

DRX 9000 Spinal Disc Decompression

San Francisco Herniated Disc Doctor comments on Spinal Decompression:

Md_news_photos_011 More and more people are discovering nonsurgical spinal decompression. There are a variety of machines, and there are many different ways to use them. Personally, I choose to use the DRX9000 by Axiom Worldwide. Sure, it is the most expensive, but in my opinion, it is also the best machine. I say that because I checked out some of the other machines before I purchased my DRX9000 lumbar decompression machines, and my DRX9000c cervical decompression system. I like the DRX9000 because it is very comfortable for the patient. You actually lie on your back with a wedge under your knees, which is a very comfortable position. You can watch a DVD movie or listen to music with state of the art head phones while you relax and receive treatment. The sessions last about 25 minutes. Then you do 10 minutes of muscle stimulation (not painful) and 10 minutes of ice. That’s the DRX9000 protocol. Some clinics, including mine, do other therapies along with the spinal decompression if indicated.

Md_news_photos_008 For instance, we will do special stretches, massage, and light adjustments with an instrument if we feel we need to. We also have a machine called a SpineForce which is the only machine in the world that can assess and treat the CORE spinal muscles. This is done after the DRX9000 decompression therapy treatment plan is finished. The sessions are 3 times for 4 weeks (12 visits). We also incorporate nutrition, meditation, and Yoga as needed. Some clinics just do the DRX9000 sessions and that’s it. I like the comprehensive approach, it just makes the most sense to me. Choose your doctor carefully. It’s worth the effort.

If you would like to find out if you are a candidate for decompression therapy at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center, please call 415-392-2225 and as for a complimentary consultation. Or, fill out our Free Online DRX9000 Consultation Form.
