Back Pain Treatment with Spinal Decompression in San Francisco

spinal decompression SF

Spinal Decompression Therapy SF

We have been providing treatment for back pain in downtown San Francisco for over 22 years now.

About 10 years ago we began to include nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000 into the mix. The results have been outstanding.

Spinal decompression can help avoid surgery by repairing herniated and lumbar disc naturally. This is possible because decompression systems are designed and built to elongate the spine, enlarge the disc spaces and re-position the injured spinal disc into a more normal position away from the spinal nerve roots and spinal cord.

Decompression therapy is NOT  “magic bullet”. In fact, it takes quite a bit of effort by both the patient and doctor to achieve a favorable outcome.

Te typical course of spinal decompression therapy is 20 sessions over a 6 week period. There is extensive home care, dietary recommendations, and lifestyle modifications. The patients that do the most achieve the best results.

Disc decompression to the lumbar spine for the most part is painless and a majority of our patients actually fall asleep during treatments. Sometimes there can be soreness and if there is it is usually bearable and not extreme. Though moderate to sever discomfort is possible…just not likely.

To find out if you are a candidate for nonsurgical spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation and tour of the DRX9000.

Sciatica Treatment with Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression in san franciscoWe have been providing relief for sciatica symptoms in downtown San Francisco since 1992.

Sciatica is a symptom not a cause. Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve or nerve roots, which originate in the lumbar spine and travel down the leg become irritated and inflamed. When this happens it typically causes pain that travels down one or both legs, usually one. There can be associated numbness, tingling or weakness. Sometimes there is back pain and sometimes there isn’t.

The most common cause of sciatica is a herniated or bulging disc in the low back. Although, the pain associated can be severe and debilitating, it’s also the type of problem that can be brought under control within a few weeks. Chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, and exercise can help with sciatica symptoms. But in reality, they are just treating the symptoms and not the cause.

About 9 years ago we began to incorporate nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000 into our herniated and bulging disc treatment protocols. We were the first to offer these services in San Francisco. Since then we have performed more than 20,000 decompression sessions to thousands of disc patients, and the results have been outstanding.

Spinal Decompression machines are designed and built to treat lumbar disc herniations, bulges, facet syndrome, degenerative disc disease, and spinal stenosis…all sciatica causes, naturally.

Disc decompression therapy with the DRX elongates the spine, enlarges the disc space, re-hydrates the injured spinal disc and re-positions the herniated disc fragments away from the nerve roots and spinal cord and back to the center of the disc. Does it do this every time? NO…just most of the time. No treatment is 100% effective. However, spinal decompression IS 100% natural. No drugs, No surgery. Either it works or it doesn’t (rare). In the rare event the DRX fails to deliver results, you are still whole and can pursue other treatment options. The DRX is very very safe…and effective.

To find out if you are a candidate for sciatica treatment in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression Just Makes Sense!

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

Md_news_photos_011 We purchased our first nonsurgical spinal decompression machine about 6 years ago. The machines we use are the DRX9000 lumbar decompression system, and the DRX9000c cervical decompression system…but there are many fine decompression systems in the marketplace.

I like to think of spinal decompression as a respirator for the spinal discs. A respirator helps the lungs to breath when they are unable to do so on their own until they can. Spinal decompression helps the discs to breath and heal until they can function in a more normal fashion.

When spinal discs are functioning properly they are constantly taking in fresh nutrients and oxygen from the blood and expelling waste products. When they are injured (disc bulge, disc herniation, disc degeneration) they are unable to do this and lose the ability to function properly.

The herniated disc fragments or a bulging disc can put pressure on the spinal cord and nerves causing severe pain and loss of function.

Spinal decompression systems isolate on a specific spinal disc level…say L5 (the most common disc herniation) and help the disc to do what it would do if it could…until it is healthy enough to do it on it's own…just like a respirator does for the lungs.

How long this takes depends on the severity of the condition, whether or not there are multiple disc herniations, the age of the patient, the over-all health of the patient, and if there are any complications…such as scoliosis or advanced spinal degeneration.

Success rates are outstanding…and nonsurgical spinal decompression is very safe and gentle…most patients fall asleep during treatments.

So what's the downside? Well…it is possible to go through the entire spinal decompression program (which is 20-28 sessions at our clinic) and not get better. It's possible…it's just not likely.

In fact…I can't remember the last patient that did not respond favorably to lumbar decompression or cervical decompression at our San Francisco Decompression Center.

So anyway…will spinal decompression work for you? Only one way to find out…you have to try it!

If you would like to find out if you qualify for spinal decompression therapy at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression clinic, call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

How does spinal decompression work?

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

Drx9000 san francisco Spinal disc decompression with machines such as the DRX9000 is no longer a novelty.

Six years ago we became the first clinic in San Francisco to offer DRX9000 nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy. Now there are decompression therapy machines all over the Bay Area.

Why is this? Well…it's not because they don't work, I'll tell you that!

In fact, the success rates are fantastic as long as the spinal decompression doctor is skilled at setting herniated disc patients up (on the spinal decompression machine) properly and managing chronic back pain and neck pain patients. This comes with experience….it's an art.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as herniated discs, bulging discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and facet syndrome.

Disc decompression therapy actually isolates on a specific spinal segment such as L5-S1 (which is the most common lumbar disc to herniate) and does the following:

  • Enlarges the disc space.
  • Elongates the spine.
  • Repositions the spinal disc.
  • Pulls the herniated or bulging disc fragments back to the center of the disc and off the spinal cord and nerves.
  • Re-hydrates the disc (pumps out waste products and brings in nutrients).
  • Strenghtens the spinal ligaments.
  • Reduces intradiscal pressure.

It sounds great…how come medical doctors don't refer herniated disc patients out for spinal decompression therapy?

Some do…In fact, some medical doctors have the DRX9000 or similar decompression systems in their clinics.

At our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center we get medical referrals all the time. We have also treated many medical doctors, dentists, nurses (hear one our patients tell her DRX9000 story), and health care providers with decompression therapy.

It sounds to good to be true?

Yes it does…but here's the deal:

Spinal decompression is NOT a Magic Bullet. Spinal decompression is a lot of work. It takes 20-24 one hour sessions on average and there is quite a bit of home care, exercises, and work by both the patient and provider.

And…it's possible you could go through the entire process and not get better. It's possible…but not likely. Success rates are excellent.

So where do I sign-up?

Not so fast…you first have to be qualified by a spinal decompression doctor…not everyone is a candidate for spinal disc decompression. Here's what you need to do:

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area you can call Executive Express Chiropractic at 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation (mention this blog post).

If you do not live in San Francisco you can visit our recommended chiropractors page (most are spinal decompression doctors)  or send me an email at ebendavis@yahoo.com and I will do my best to steer you in the right direction.

The Truth About Spinal Decompression!

DRX9000 San Francisco
San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

We were one of the first chiropractic clinics in San Francisco to offer spinal decompression for the lumbar spine. I believe we ordered our first lumbar decompression machine over 5 years ago. The machine we purchased is the DRX9000. A short while after that we purchased a cervical spinal decompression system, the DRX9000c, so we could perform spinal decompression to the cervical spine.

Then we purchased more machines. Since then we have helped hundreds, if not thousands of serious back and neck conditions with the help of decompression therapy. During this time we have learned the following:

Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Is NOT a Magic Bullet!

What spinal decompression is, is the most advanced form of non-surgical therapy for neurovascular compression syndromes such as herniated discs, bulging discs, facet syndromes, and some forms of stenosis, in the marketplace today.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to enlarge the disc space, elongate the spine, re-hydrate the damaged spinal disc, re-position the spinal disc, strengthen the spinal ligaments, and promote healing.

Does nonsurgical lumbar decompression or cervical decompression work for every patient that does it? NO?…just most of them.

What about all the negative things you read online about the DRX9000 and the lawsuits against the company?

Well…they had some bad apples working for them that were telling medical doctors that they could bill Medicare for nonsurgical spinal decompression…which is not true. In fact, insurance does not pay for spinal decompression because it is still considered experimental (however, there are very favorable preliminary research findings).

So that turned into a major ordeal. Then, some of the patients that were told insurance would pay jumped in. Then, some of the patients that were not helped by spinal decompression (which is the minority) jumped on the bandwagon…and now the decompression waters are muddy.

But…meanwhile back at our San Francisco Chiropractic Clinic and Spinal Decompression Center, we continue to use decompression therapy as a tool to achieve favorable outcomes for herniated disc patients. Our patients as a whole are highly educated and most have tried every form of back and neck pain treatment under the sun.

And…about 75% of our spinal decompression patients continue on with maintenance care because they want to maintain the positive changes from the initial treatment.  Would they do this if it didn't work?

* See our San Francisco Spinal Decompression testimonials.

And nonsurgical spinal decompression to the neck or low back is very safe (and gentle). We have never caused permanent bodily harm to a patient. Sure, some patients get sore…and sometimes the soreness lasts a while…but even this is rare.

Yes, it's true that you may do the entire decompression process and not feel a bit better…it's just not likely.

So don't listen to the naysayers. There's too much at stake.  If you have herniated discs in the neck, or herniated discs in the low back…and nothing seems to be helping…give nonsurgical decompression with the DRX9000, or many of the other excellent decompression machines out there a chance. You may just get your life back.

For a complimentary spinal decompression consultation at Executive Express Chiropractic in the SF Financial District…please call 415-392-2225. We validate parking at the Embarcadero Center.

Spinal Decompression: Is it worth the money?

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

Dallas Cowboy Igor Olshansky on DRX9000 San Francisco
We have been helping patients with cervical and lumbar disc herniations in the San Francisco Financial District since 1992 at Executive Express Chiropractic (formerly Front Street Chiropractic).

About 5 years ago we decided to incorporate nonsurgical spinal decompression into our treatment protocols for patients that would not respond to chiropractic. Prior to this we would have to refer out for surgical consultations or patients would just have to learn to live with the pain.

The spinal decompression machine we use at Executive Express Chiropractic is the DRX9000. I chose the DRX (after researching all of the decompression machines) because I thought it was the best machine on the market. It seemed the most comfortable and the results that fellow decompression doctors were getting were outstanding.

The DRX9000 and the DRX9000c , which is the cervical component of our machine, costs around $150,000. And…the machines take up quite a bit of space. They also require additional space for post treatment of electrical stimulation, laser therapy, Active Release Techniques (ART) and ice. The machines also need extensive ongoing tune-ups and maintenance, as well as replacement harnesses and parts.

Spinal decompression is also very labor intensive, as the special harnesses need to be fitted and removed before and after each session. Patients must also be closely monitored during the treatment process.

So is spinal decompression too expensive at around $5000 for 20 sessions? I don't think so.

Each session is an hour or so including muscle stimulation, ice, deep tissue laser if needed, Active Release Techniques (ART) as prescribed, and a very comprehensive re-exam and exercise program.

Is spinal decompression with the DRX9000 glorified traction? NO. Most (top of the line) spinal decompression machines, including ours are fully computerized and have a built in biofeedback mechanism. This enables the machine to sense the muscle guarding that naturally occurs when you pull on an injured spinal area.

The DRX9000 computer makes adjustments to the amount of force that is used  based on this incoming information. Traditional traction devices just pull…which can actually harm a herniated disc patient.

Will nonsurgical spinal decompression help everyone that does it?…NO…just most of them.

Is spinal decompression worth the money?

Nobody can make that decision but you. You have to weigh the risks against the rewards.

You have to decide that you are OK if it doesn't work. You will be out some time and money.

But since spinal decompression is very safe…chances are there will be no side effects other than soreness. And you are still whole (nothing was cut out). What happens if you have surgical fusion and it doesn't work?

There are a lot of opinions out there in regards to spinal decompression…but the truth of the matter is…it's a fantastic tool.

Is it expensive? That's relative. Compared to what?

Many skeptics (most of which have no experience as a decompression doctor or patient) say it is glorified traction.

Well…there's not much I can do about what other people think or say. My attention is on getting herniated disc patients better…and spinal decompression along with everything else we do along with it, helps us accomplish this goal.

To find out if you are a candidate for nonsurigical spinal decompression therapy at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

Is There Enough Research on the DRX9000?

San Francisco Chiropractor and Herniated Disc Doctor Comments:

DRX9000 lumbar decompression san francisco The DRX9000 Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression System is a machine that is designed and built to treat lumbar disc herniations, disc bulges, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease nonsurgically.

The DRX9000 is able to enlarge the disc space, re-position and re-hydrate the disc, elongate the spine, stretch the spinal ligaments, and often times prevent dangerous surgeries.

Sure it all sounds good, but is there research to support these claims?

Well…Yes and No. There are preliminary research findings from a joint study done by the Mayo Clinic, Duke University, and John Hopkins University. This information has been available for a while now and is summarized in this DRX9000 Special Report

The thing is…even though this preliminary research is very favorable, it's not the full blown double blind studies that insurance companies and medical doctors need to fully embrace nonsurgical spinal decompression.

But you know what?…the patients that are doing spinal decompression at Executive Express Chiropractic in downtown San Francisco…and around the world, just don't care. They know decompression therapy is safe,,,they know it's effective from all the positive testimony from happy DRX patients. And they don't want to wait…they want back pain relief now.

At some point there will be full blown double blind research data…but who knows how long this will take? When you consider that nothing is being removed from your body and no chemicals are being introduced…what's the worse thing that can happen?…it doesn't help…and maybe some soreness…and you have a little less money in the bank.

As far as I know…nonsurgical spinal decompression has never caused permanent paralysis or death…it is very safe and gentle…most patients fall asleep during the sessions. And the results can be simply amazing…life changing.

So is the DRX9000 for you? Maybe. Is there enough research to support doing it? That's up to you. Check out the special report, do some homework…and go check it out…maybe even get on the DRX to see what it feels like…you will be amazed.

Then go for it…why?…because life is short and it just makes sense.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression or Physical Therapy for a Herniated Disc?

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

MD News Photos 011 We have been helping Bay Area patients with lumbar and cervical herniated discs in downtown San Francisco for many years now. We use a unique blend of nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000 and the DRX9000c, along with Active Release Techniques (ART), Graston Technique, Massage, Exercise, and modern Chiropractic.

We achieve favorable outcomes with a very high percentage of our herniated disc patients. So much so, that they refer others and return for maintenance care…a true sign of satisfaction (read our SF DRX9000 success stories).

In fact, the DRX9000 has done very well of late under the microscope. Check out the DRX9000 Special Report  which is a compilation of preliminary research results on spinal decompression with the DRX9000 from the Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins University, and Duke University…very impressive.

So how do DRX9000 disc herniation treatment outcomes stack up against the outcomes of physical therapy?

Honestly…I don't know. What I do know is this…it sure seems like just about every patient we treat on the DRX9000 lumbar decompression system or the DRX9000c cervical decompression system, has already tried everything under the sun…including physical therapy. Hey…we do physical therapy also…but we do it when the spine is ready for it…after the herniated disc has been repaired, re-hydrated and repositioned.

Exercise just doesn't seem to work well (on some patients) when a herniated disc is putting pressure on a nerve or the spinal cord and there is lots of inflammation and spasm.

At least it didn't (physical therapy) on our disc patients that tried it (prior to DRX).

Now,  if you have just been diagnosed with a herniated disc and your medical doctor has prescribed physical therapy, should you do it?  Probably…otherwise you will never know if it would have helped…because it might. Same with chiropractic.

Hey…as I have said many times…not all herniated disc patients need nonsurgical spinal decompression…only those that do not respond to more conventional therapies such as physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, and medical treatments.

Heck…some of you will start to feel better if you do nothing.

Sure, some patients jump right on the DRX without trying anything else…and it's probably a good choice (yes my opinion is biased)…but most run the course and try all the aforementioned treatments…probably because decompression is NOT covered by insurance and all the other treatments are. The DRX9000 has just not been around long enough to be covered yet.

Now that there is favorable preliminary research…it will lead to long term studies…that will eventually lead to nonsurgical spinal decompression being covered by insurance. But who wants to wait?

Anyway…the bottom line is this…If you feel like you have tried everything for your herniated disc…or want to save the time of trying everything and try the most effective therapy first…nonsurgical decompression with the DRX9000 just might be the answer.

To find a doctor near you with a DRX9000 go to www.axiomworldwide.com.

San Francisco Disc Herniation Treatment with the DRX9000

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

MD News Photos 011 We have been practicing our unique brand of chiropractic in the SF Financial District for over 17 years now. We specialize in the nonsurgical treatment of chronic back, neck, and wrist pain.

The name of our clinic is Executive Express Chiropractic(formerly Front Street Chiropractic) and we are located at the landmark Embarcadero Center near the Ferry Building.

About 4 years ago we purchased our first nonsurgical spinal decompression system…the DRX9000. We wanted to improve upon our ability to treat serious neck and back conditions such as herniated discs, bulging discs, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease. Sure, we already had great success treating these kinds of conditions…but sadly, about 10-15% of the patients we would treat just would not respond.

I had been researching nonsurgical spinal decompression and I finally decided to pull the trigger and purchase a DRX9000 system. Well, since then we have treated hundreds of cervical and lumbar disc herniation patients successfully. Along with facet syndromes, disc bulges, disc degeneration, and stenosis.

Are we happy?…YES. Are these patients happy?…YES. Does the DRX9000 decompression treatment help everyone that does it?…NO.

While spinal decompression in my opinion is the most advanced nonsurgical disc herniation treatment in the marketplace…it's NOT a MAGIC BULLET. In fact…it's quite a bit of work. Patients come for 20-30 one hour sessions along with all kinds of home care and exercises.

What is the success rate?…very good. Check out the DRX9000 Special Report, which is a compilation of preliminary research done by the Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins and Duke Universities…it's very impressive.

So anyway…will it work for you? I don't know…and neither does anyone else…you have to find out for yourself. Read the report…do some homework…and then decide. Of course you have to find yourself a doctor that does spinal decompression with the DRX9000 or DRX9000c (cervical decompression). You can do this at www.axiomworldwide.com. They have a doctor finder.

If you live or work in the SF Bay Area…you can contact our downtown San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center at 415-392-2225 or request an appointment online. We offer a complimentary consultation.
